Who we are

Xenia Hodza, Artist in Residence

Xenia Hodza warren art studio school

was born in Manhattan at the end of 1962. It was a good start.

She studied life drawing and painting at the Art Students League of New York then earned a BA in Art history at Purchase College and an MFA in painting from Western Connecticut State University.

Her quest is to bring artists together to find that singularly beautiful line in the ugliest of things.

The Art Studio School's Mission

Plein Air Exhibition in Litchfield, CT, Garret Neuf's first home

To become a place where artist souls get a little solace from themselves.  A place in which the serious work that art is can be done without apology. Through hikes to secret places of astounding natural beauty, plein air painting, constructive critiques, contemplation, and camaraderie, no artist will be lost.

Duchamp & Other Astouding Imps

Duchamp and Other Astounding Imps of Art

Understanding how a urinal becomes a work of art almost as famous as the Mona Lisa requires a cognitive shift. In 1917, Marcel Duchamp instigated that shift and the definition of art would never be the same. This talk will look at Duchamp and the “permission” he gave younger artists of his ilk who would confound critics ever anew with minimalist, conceptual, and performance art.
